Sunday Joel, the children, and I had the grandparents over for our annual Grandparents’ Dinner! You might remember last year’s “Grand Celebration” when we dined alfresco with a low country meal. This year’s theme did not take long to come up with since we have apples on our minds all through September. September is just referred to as *apple month* at our house and I can not resist using the delicious fruit in as many dishes and desserts as possible.
Madeline and I had a moment in Hobby Lobby, as we viewed the collection of soap molds, when we spotted a tree-shaped mold and immediately thought, ‘family tree’! A perfect theme to honor the generations before us, each having passed down their individual legacies of character, skills, traits, and, most importantly, FAITH.

I love when the table is going to seat enough people that we have mismatched chairs! Family who cares little about my mismatched chairs also cast no judgement over the fact that my dishes are chipped and the same old glasses have made their appearance at every family meal for twenty years (unless we use plastic!).
We had such an enjoyable time Sunday. I can’t wait to share our apple recipes this week because recipes just excite me, but while the food plays a special role in getting us around a table, it’s the stories, laughter, and love that feeds our hearts during these meals together.
I’ll be back this week with an abundance of apple recipes!
