February 2017 was a BIG month! Today I’m documenting just three of its events: A benefit dinner, a birthday, and a bridal shower.
Last year I served on a planning committee for our local pregnancy center’s 2017 benefit dinner. The theme was “An Abundant LIFE Celebration” and I worked on decorating for the event.
Joel cut out the letter boards and I drew and painted the letters on them. Yep, at our house! They were BIG!

We made 40 chalkboards to mark the table rotations. I paid for the supplies so that I could keep them to use for other events such as showers, birthdays, church meals, etc. If you live near me and want to borrow them, feel free to ask!
My amazing husband and kids all pitched in on the day of the dinner, along with other volunteers from the center. It was a crazy and fun day!
We were provided with a gray room and black tablecloths, therefore color needed to be brought into the decor! After all, it was called a celebration and it needed to look like one! The graphic designer used colorful balloons on all the marketing materials for the event, so I used the same color balloons in the decor.
I wish I had more photos from the evening. It was beautiful that night with the lights dimmed and candles flickering on the tables. But most importantly, the pregnancy center met their goal for money raised!
With other responsibilites this year, I had to decline being on the committee for 2018, but hopefully I can in another season of life. It was such a blessing and I’ve missed it. But last summer, Abigail was able to get an internship with the center, so our relationship with this amazing ministry continues!
Next we have Abigail’s 17th birthday! It was on a Sunday and we started the day with gifts at breakfast and then went to church. After church the family went to see the “Because of Winn Dixie” play since Abigail looooves theater. It was a great production and we all enjoyed it.
She didn’t have a party, but we did save her birthday cookie cake for a night when her friends were already coming over.
It’s so hard to believe Abigail is a senior this year and that she will be in college next year! So proud of this girl. She plans to attend a wonderful Christian university where she already takes dual enrollment classes (so I guess she kind of already is a college student?). More on that in another post!
And our last big event for the month was a bridal shower that my SIL, her daughter, my girls, and I hosted for my niece Cassidy.
Her wedding colors were lilac, royal blue, and gray. I pulled the lilac from that palette which was a perfect color for a February shower. Very Valentiney!
I made good use of those chalkboards from the benefit dinner!

The bride and mother-of-the-bride.
The shower menu included…..
Lavender Almond Cupcakes,
Lemon Curd Tartlets,
Raspberry White Chocolate Bars,
Chicken Salad with Crackers, Pimiento Cheese Sandwiches, Chocolate-Covered Strawberries,
Grapes, Cheese Straws, and Lavendar-Blueberry Lemonade.
I embellished plastic punch cups and paper coffee cups with hearts punched out from shimmery paper. I have a bunch left over to use for Valentine’s Day this year!
When Joel and I first met, Cassidy was 5 years old! When we married she was 9 and I loved having a niece! I would borrow her from her parents as often as I could and pretend she was mine. We mostly baked and crafted and every Wednesday I picked her up from school for our weekly art lesson. We even made matching Easter hats one year! Now Cassidy and Jacob are already coming up on their first anniversary in April! Wow, how time flies!
This closes our February highlights so check back for March 2017 memories!
