I can hardly believe that my Abigail is turning sixteen this month! Our little early bird arrived a whole month before her due date on February 12, and came home with us on Valentine’s Day, thus Joel and I have always called her our “Valentine Baby”. Want to know another interesting tidbit? Joel and I also met on February 12, exactly eight years before Abigail came along!
For sixteen years, Joel and I have prayed for this girl, and God has blessed us all with a teen who loves the Lord, loves her family, and loves her friends. I’m so proud of this young lady. Although Abigail is talented, bright, and beautiful, what I’m most proud of is how she pursues her own relationship with God and diligently works to please and obey Him.
Each week in our schooling, the children and I work on a Biblical character quality. With each character quality, we learn its definition and a Bible verse that supports that quality. I choose a quality that maybe we need to work on as a family, or one in which the children could possibly use some extra training.
However, last week, I chose the character quality based on those in which I felt Abigail displays the most strength. While there were several that suited Abigail, the quality of VIRTUE was an easy choice.
Maintaining moral excellence and setting godly standards.
“But also, for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge.”
2 Peter 1:5
Abigail is unwavering in her faith and Biblical convictions, yet compassionate and nonjudgmental of others. She is also one of the most forgiving people I know, getting over offenses and moving on quickly.
For these reasons, and many more, Joel and I were happy to give her a special party. So yesterday, the ladies in our family celebrated this milestone occasion with a luncheon in Abigail’s honor. A few days before the luncheon, Abigail and I went shopping for her party supplies. She said she wanted pink and feminine for her Sweet Sixteen! This week, I will post more photographs of the luncheon shared with our grandmothers, aunts, and little lady cousins.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ABIGAIL!
