Yesterday marked a special day for our dear grandmother Nonie. Seventy years ago she wed her sweetheart and soul mate who proposed to her by saying, “I’m about to go off to that war and get myself killed so ya better marry me now!”
Thankfully, World War II ended right after Pa’s less-than-romantic proposal and these two starry-eyed love birds started planning a wedding and a life together. And what a life! Three lovely daughters, 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, camping trips, hard work, family meals, devotion to God, service to Church and community, challenges, triumphs, and a spoiled dog or two later, their marriage has left a beautiful legacy for all future generations.
Two years ago our sweet Pa left this earth but not our hearts and certainly not the heart of his bride. Nonie’s adoration for Pa is still quite evident with every memory she recounts. As she shares stories of her beloved, her face still radiates with the youthful love of that 18 year old girl that said, “Yes!”
Happy 70th Anniversary, Nonie and Pa! We love you!
